As a High School Math Teacher, Lee Counterman creates a rigorous and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. He partners closely with students to help them connect abstract ideas to real-world applications and build lasting mathematical proficiency.
His responsibilities include planning and delivering standards-based math instruction across high school levels, integrating meaningful real-world applications, supporting student growth through feedback and assessment, and fostering strong relationships with students. Lee is passionate about helping students move beyond memorization and toward true conceptual understanding.
Lee Counterman is most passionate about the “lightbulb moment” in learning—when a student finally understands a concept that once felt difficult or out of reach. He finds great joy in helping students build confidence in math and overcome academic challenges through persistence and support.
As he joins Colearn Academy, Lee is especially excited about the opportunity to help shape the high school math curriculum. He looks forward to making mathematics more meaningful and relevant by integrating real-world applications at every level, helping students not only learn formulas but understand their purpose and impact.
Lee’s journey into education began through a program that helped fund his undergraduate studies, but he quickly discovered a natural calling for teaching. Early success in helping students perform well on state exams confirmed his talent and passion for education. Today, he is inspired by the opportunity to bridge the gap between student struggle and academic success.
A fun fact about Lee is that he grew up working on his family’s dairy farm, which sparked a lifelong love of agriculture. He now runs his own farm where he raises Angus cattle and a small group of miniature donkeys.
