At Colearn Academy, we believe that learning goes beyond textbooks and traditional classroom settings. Our Live Clubs and Classes provide students with dynamic and interactive opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and connect with peers. Elementary and Middle School Offerings

  • Fun with Phonics (K-1st) Monday 1:00
    Join us as we have fun with phonics! This weekly class will be for students who are working on their letter-sound correspondence and moving on from there with phonics. 
  • Read Aloud (K-2nd) Wednesday 9:00
    Join us each week as we do a read aloud together followed by a comprehension activity. 
  • Reading Skills (4th-5th) Tuesday 11:00
    This weekly class will focus on building vocabulary, comprehension and fluency skills for upper elementary readers.
  • Elementary Book Club (3rd-5th) Wednesday 9:00
    In this club we'll read and discuss several middle grade novels (geared toward 8 to 12 year olds), throughout the year.
  • Beginning Writers (1st-2nd) Tuesday 1:00
    This year's lower elementary Writer's Workshop will be using the Beginning Writer's program from Brave Writer, completing ten different writing assignments throughout the year.
  • Writer's Workshop (3rd-5th) Monday 10:00
    This year's Elementary Writer's Workshop will be using the Emerging Writer's program from Brave Writer, completing ten different writing assignments throughout the year.
  • Early Math Skills (K-1st) Monday 9:30
    Join us as we build on our early math foundations. We will make sure that we are sharp in all of our necessary math skills.
  • Beginners Math (2nd-3rd) Wednesday 9:30
    Join us as we become fluent mathematicians! This class focuses on our multiplication and division skills from 1-12. We will practice our facts in a fun way each week. 
  • Fun with Science (K-2nd) Wednesday 1:00
    This is a bi-weekly class. We will take virtual field trips all over the world from the Coral Reef in Australia to the Great Wall of China to National State Parks. Each field trip will cover elementary science standards. 
  • Building Presentation Skills (K-2nd)  Wednesday 1:00
    This bi-weekly class will focus on oral presentations. We will learn to build our confidence through public speaking with different topics each class. 
  • Art Club (K-2nd) Thursday 11:00
    Join us as we explore a world of creativity through ever-changing themes.  Each class promises new adventures in drawing, painting, and crafting, where young artists can unleash their imaginations together.  Let's discover art in all it's colors and forms!
  • Lego Builder's Club (K-4th) Monday 11:00
    Join us each week as we put our Lego building skills to the test with fun weekly challenges. Everyone will also get a chance to pick a challenge for the class to try. 
  • Where Are We Wednesdays (K-4th) Wednesday 11:00
    Come join us as we study a new country every week! We'll learn about the culture, dress, language, and all the yummy food.

    ¡Hola! Let's learn Spanish. We will read stories, play games and learn about Spanish speaking countries.

    Join us each week as we learn some ASL! We'll cover things from greetings, animals, deaf culture and everything in between!

    Come join us as we explore the beauty of watercolor! We will practice various techniques, learn about famous watercolor artists, and create our own wonderful art each week.

    Election year is the perfect time to learn about the history and process of elections and voting rights in the US. This class will be for fall semester only.

    Come along with me and learn the history of some of the most amazing places and people!  While learning about the Great Wall of China and the Amazon Rain Forrest, you will be learning how to construct outlines and write short essays to strengthen your organization skills, study skills, and writing skills.

    We are embarking on future historical moments!!  We will learn how parties choose candidates, how the electoral college works, and how we get to the primaries where we, as a nation, get to decide who will be our future leader.

    Life Skills classes help prepare students for independent living and equip them with the skills necessary to navigate various aspects of adult life confidently.

    Weekly English writing course with an American History theme. Students will work on grammar skills throurgh sentences from the Jungle Book.
  • IEW Level C (9th-12th) Monday 10:00
    Weekly English writing course with an American Literature theme. Students will work on grammar skills throurgh sentences from the Frog Prince.
  • Write Your Own Adv. (11th-12th) Monday 11:00
    Weekly English writing course that will teach students how a story works. Students will complete their own novel by the end of the school year.
  • American History (9th-12th) Wednesday 9:00
    Embark on an exploration of American History from the first settlers to today.
  • World History (9th-12th) Wednesday 10:00
    Embark on an exploration of World History spanning from the Rise of Nations to Global Issues in today's world. This course will cover World Geography.
  • US Government (9th-12th) Thursday 11:00
    Explore what the framers of the U.S. Constitution meant by "a more perfect union" and the result of their vision: the creation of democracy. Learn how the U.S. government is structured and operates, and examine its three branches that make up a system of checks and balances.
  • Spanish Levels 1-3 (8th-12th) Thursday 10:00
    ¿Hablas español? In this class we will learn conversational spanish through weekly topics including: Daily Life, School, Sports, and virtual fieldtrips to Spanish speaking locations around the world!
  • ASL 1 (8th-12th) Monday 12:00
    Join us for weekly lessons to learn a fun, new language. Each week, we will learn about Sign Language and Deaf Culture. By the end of the semester, you should be able to have a short, simple conversation with someone.  ASL 2 will be offered in the Spring.

    Join us for our literature discussion!  Let's have some fun with our book club as we come to discuss in depth what we have read for this semester's picks such as Thief, Wuthering Heights, and more.

    Unlock your potential behind the lens in this Beginner Photography Class.  Perfect for those new to photography, you'll learn how to confidently use your camera, explore composition principles, and develop your unique visual style.
  • Intro to AI & ChatGPT (9th-12th) Tuesday 11:00
    Learn to harness the power of AI and use it responsibly. High school students will explore the basics of artificial intelligence, understand how it impacts society, and engage in assignments and projects that promote responsible AI usage. Join us weekly to become more informed about AI and how to use it ethically throughout your education and life.
  • Mythology (9th-12th) Wednesday 11:00
    Do you love reading Roman and Greek myths? Did you know that many other countries have their own myths and legends as well? Join the World Mythology class to see how all the stories from around the world connect. Throughout the course, we will study cultures and stories of how people believed things were created and worked. It won’t only be the Greeks and Romans, but we will learn from the Irish, Native American, Norse, and others.
