Role

As a Middle School ELA and History Teacher, Andrew Fries creates an engaging and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to think critically, communicate effectively, and make meaningful connections between literature, history, and the world around them. He partners closely with families to support student growth through personalized instruction and consistent communication.

His responsibilities include planning and delivering standards-based instruction in English Language Arts and History, fostering strong relationships with students and families, supporting academic progress through feedback and assessment, and creating a classroom culture where students feel seen, supported, and challenged. Andrew is passionate about helping students connect deeply with content while building confidence in their ideas and voices.

About

Andrew Fries values the opportunity to connect with students and families through the content he teaches. He believes that strong relationships are central to meaningful learning and enjoys building connections that help students feel engaged, supported, and understood.

As he joins Colearn Academy, Andrew is excited about the opportunity to teach in a flexible, innovative learning environment that allows him to grow professionally while also supporting balance in his personal life. He looks forward to developing his teaching practice in a way that enhances both student learning and family life.

Andrew’s passion for teaching was shaped by his own experience as a student. Growing up feeling like a “black sheep” in his family due to his interests and perspectives, he found encouragement and belonging through a few high school teachers who shared his passions. Those relationships had a lasting impact on him and inspired his desire to “pay it forward” by becoming the kind of teacher who helps students feel seen, valued, and supported.
